Metro Fire Recruit Academy Graduates New Firefighters

Citrus Heights, CA. – Metro Fire graduates eighteen new Firefighter/Paramedics on Friday, November 30 from the Metro Fire Recruit Academy, a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Fire Fighter 1 Academy. The ceremonies will occur at the City of Citrus Heights Community Center 6300 Fountain Square Drive at 6:00 pm.

The eighteen week academy included hundreds of hours on the drill ground and in the classroom combining the knowledge and skills critical for performing emergency operations on scene at fires, emergency medical incidents, motor vehicle accidents and more. Recruits trained in live structural and wildland fires, simulated structural collapses, and learned countless other firefighting and rescue skills. Additionally, Included in this training was time spent on physical fitness in which recruits not only were instructed by Metro Fire’s Health and Fitness Coordinator how to properly train for the rigors of firefighting, but also on healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices.

Academy staff taught recruits the skills needed to be successful in their careers and instilled Metro Fire’s core values of Integrity, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Service before Self. Of the eighteen graduating Firefighters, several were already employed by Metro Fire, as Paramedics in our Single Role Paramedic (SRP) program. The SRP program is a career pathway unique to Metro Fire, designed to give the next generation of Firefighters the opportunity to enter emergency medicine as Paramedics and EMTs, with the expectation they will promote to Firefighter/Paramedic, when positions become available. The SRP Program launched in 2013, making this the eighth Academy class to see Paramedics successfully promote to Firefighter/Paramedics.

Metro Fire Academy Class 18-2 will receive their badges and take their oaths to serve the public tomorrow tonight. During the ceremony they will also receive their probationary station and shift assignments following fire service tradition. The Local 522 Honor Guard will mark the opening and closing of the graduation with the presentation of the Colors by the Honor Guard and traditional fire service processional by its Pipes and Drums.

Graduating Firefighter/Paramedics and other personnel from Metro Fire will be available for interviews on site before commencement of the event. For additional information, please contact Captain/PIO Chris Vestal at (916) 616-2430.
