Greater Sacramento Area Fireworks Task Force to Start Enforcement of Illegal Fireworks

Vineyard, CA. – Sacramento Public Safety agencies, including the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, will hold a media event this Thursday to announce the Greater Sacramento Area Fireworks Task Force (GSAFTF) programs on the same day legal Safe and Sane Fireworks commence sales. In partnership with TNT Fireworks, Phantom Fireworks, and Discount Fireworks this will be the 27th year of the collaborative interagency task force.

In Sacramento County only Safe and Sane fireworks are legal to use and only between June 28 and July 4. These legal fireworks have the “Safe and Sane” seal from the Office of the California State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Fireworks without this seal are not legal and those caught using these items will result in punishment including fines and jail time if caught. When utilizing Safe and Sane fireworks, ensure proper use and disposal methods are followed to prevent injury and property damage.

Safe and Sane Fireworks sales in the Greater Sacramento Area provide community and charity groups with fundraising opportunities for their annual activities while also allowing a safe and celebratory Fourth of July when used properly. Visit for electronic versions of documents and video produced by the California Fireworks Newswire to ensure members of our communities enjoy a safe Fourth of July celebration with fireworks.

The media event will be held at the end of Bothwell Drive in the Vineyard community at the site of a recent vegetation fire caused by use of illegal fireworks to emphasize the danger to public safety and our community. After formal comments on fireworks safety and education, enforcement and prosecution of illegal use, GSAFTF personnel will be available for comment (including Spanish). Additionally, all members of the media are invited to “ride along” with a Metro Fire Inspector during the inspection of fireworks booths.

We look forward to your attendance at this year’s Greater Sacramento Area Fireworks Task Force media event. For further information, please contact GSAFTF PIO, Captain Chris Vestal of Metro Fire, at (916) 859-4589.

Livestream: Metro Fire and CalOES will host a livestream of this event on their Social Media which will be shared by other participating agencies
