Sacramento Operational Area Relieves Deployed Firefighters in Southern California

Sacramento, CA – Fire agencies within the Sacramento Operational Area are set to relieve firefighting personnel who have been deployed to Southern California for the last two weeks. The firefighters who will replace those already in Southern California at the Thomas Fire are prepared to have a deployment that may last up to fourteen days.

A full strike team including 22 personnel from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) returned home tonight, December 18, 2017, and will not be replaced. This leaves 83 Sacramento Area Fire Fighters still assigned to the Thomas Fire on 17 Engines as part of various strikes teams or on overhead assignments.

44 personnel are deploying from the Sacramento area tomorrow morning from Metro Fire, Cosumnes Fire Department, Sacramento Fire Department, Folsom Fire Department, and West Sacramento Fire Department. These personnel will swap out firefighters from their own agency once they arrive in Southern California.

Personnel will be reporting to the staging location at 0700 tomorrow morning with a departure time of 0800. If you are interested in capturing any video and sound, please call me for the location.
