City of Ione Police Department Donates Bicycles to Metro Fire for Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Toy Project

Rancho Murieta, CA – Regional public safety agencies often work together during emergencies to protect the communities we serve, but this holiday in the Sacramento region three will come together to bring a Happy Holiday and to support the White Rock Elementary School’s Perfect Attendance bike program for youth in our area. While the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department (SSD) routinely work together during emergency response and community partnerships, the City of Ione Police Department has joined our team this season by donating thirty bicycles for use in various programs.

The Community Relations Division at Metro Fire is assisting their counterparts at SSD with their Toy Project this year, helping families in our community have a memorable holiday season through collection of gifts for children who may not otherwise receive any. We are also united in supporting the White Rock Elementary School in Rancho Cordova promote perfect attendance by providing bicycles awarded in a year end drawing to students with perfect attendance.

Meanwhile, in Ione, the Police Department recognized it had collected numerous bicycles which had surpassed time limits for unclaimed property to be retained and some were in disrepair. They called Metro Fire who arranged to receive these thirty bicycles on behalf of the SSD. The SSD Community Relations and Toy Project refurbishes donated bikes, in addition to accepting new bikes, for re-use by youth in our community. Without this program, those bicycles collected by the Ione Police Department would be unusable, instead of being able to promote attendance and education at White Rock Elementary School and supporting families in our community.

The SSD and Metro Fire are proud to assist the Ione Police Department and thank it and the City of Ione for this generous offer. At 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Station 59 in Ranch Murieta the Ione Police Department will deliver the bicycles to be donated to Metro Fire which will then take them to the SSD’s Toy Project for refurbishment.

All three agencies and White Rock Elementary School will have representatives on site available to provide the unique agency perspective on this special program. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact the following:
