Two Rancho Cordova Homes Damaged, Third Saved in Mid-afternoon Fire

Sacramento County, CA - Around 3:00 p.m. today, Metro Fire crews arrived to a home on the 10000 block of Scotsman Way in Rancho Cordova to find heavy fire from a home, already spreading to a second home. Firefighters immediately initiated fire attack in both structures, while searching for possible victims. A third home was also threatened; the engine crew assigned to that home held the fire at the fenceline, saving the structure from any damage.

Crews from four fire engines, two trucks, and two medics worked to extinguish the fire and protect as much of the residents’ belongings as possible. One cat was rescued from the fire and appeared to be unharmed. Three people initially reported difficulty breathing, but after assessment by medics on scene, denied treatment or transport. No firefighters were injured. The fire destroyed roughly 75% of the home in which it started, and approximately 60% of the adjacent home. Four adults were displaced by the fire.

Investigators on scene determined the cause of the fire to be improperly discarded smoking materials. Remember to discard any smoking materials in an appropriate receptacle and allow them to fully cool before disposing of them.
