Keeping the Vow to Never Forget: Firefighter 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Sacramento County, CA – On September 11, 2001, 343 FDNY Firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center. In remembrance, the Sacramento Area Firefighters will honor all 343 during Sacramento’s 7th annual 9/11 Memorial Climb.

The morning will begin with FDNY’s Sean Hickey (Ret.) sharing what September 11th means to him. Firefighters will then climb 110 stories in full turnouts, as did our FDNY brothers. Each firefighter will bear the name of a fallen brother, covering their own name on their turnouts. At the conclusion of the climb, the final bell will be rung as each name is placed on the 9/11 Memorial.

This is truly a solemn event, as we are honoring men who lost their lives. We encourage media to attend, but only participating firefighters will be permitted in stairwells. Media crews are welcome in the lobby or by escort to the roof.

Location: Renaissance Tower, 801 K Street, Sacramento
Time: 8:00 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2015
POC: Metro Fire Captain Michelle Eidam (916) 616-2432 and SFD Firefighter Chris Harvey (916) 216-0316
