Arrest Made in Dog Maiming Case

Sacramento County, CA - The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) Arson Investigation Unit have made an arrest in the torture and burning death of a dog caged in a carrier on the sidewalk in North Sacramento on January 22, 2015.

In the early morning hours of January 22, Metro Fire responded to a debris fire in front of Oak Plains Masonic Lodge within the 3000 block of Becerra Way. They soon discovered the fire to be contained to a small plastic dog carrier that accompanied the charred remains of a small dog inside.

Metro Fire contacted the Sheriff’s Department and began a joint investigation to find the person responsible for this horrendous act. An Arson Tip Line was soon enacted and the public, along with private animal groups began making donations to the Sacramento SPCA, offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime.

Sacramento County Animal Control conducted a Necropsy and determined the deceased dog was approximately 8-9 months old, was a small, tan-colored, mixed-breed female, who was burned alive, trapped inside the dog carrier.

Tips from the public and the joint investigation have produced evidence submitted to the Sacramento District Attorney's Office, requesting an arrest warrant be issued for Willie Bee Turner, 20, of Oakland, California. The arrest warrant was granted and Willie Turner is now in custody, being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a felony animal cruelty charge. His bail is currently set for $35,000.
