Safely Using Fireworks This Fourth of July

Mather, CA -   Local fire agencies have teamed up with Law Enforcement again this year to create a Safety Task Force with a goal of enforcing a “Zero Tolerance” campaign against the use, sale, and possession of illegal fireworks.  The Task Force will be out in strength to issue citations, confiscate illegal fireworks and make arrests, when appropriate.

The hot weather and dry conditions have some people asking why all fireworks are not banned this year. The reason is simple. Most fires and injuries are cause by illegal fireworks, not Safe & Sane fireworks. Today’s illegal fireworks are high-powered and sophisticated. The projectiles can travel up to 60 feet, easily starting fires in trees, backyards, and on roofs.  Unmodified Safe & Sane fireworks, properly lit, have not been found to be an issue.

The basic rule of thumb - Legal fireworks have the State Fire Marshal SAFE & SANE seal on the package and will be sold at legitimate fireworks booths. If it leaves the ground, sends sparks higher than 12 feet, or explodes, it is NOT legal.

Follow the simple guidelines below to make sure everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July.
