Fatal Fire in Orangevale Townhouse

Orangevale, CA – Around 2:30PM this afternoon, Metro Fire crews responded to the 9300 block of River Oaks Lane for a report of black smoke from the attic vents in a townhouse. First arriving crews forced entry inside, where they found the two-story home filled with thick, black smoke and extreme heat. While fire attack was occurring, a primary search found an adult female in one of the rooms. Tragically, she was deceased upon arrival, along with a cat also found during the search.

Preliminary analysis from Metro Fire Arson Investigators has determined the cause to be accidental in nature. Investigators are unable to rule out improperly discarded smoking material. Damage to the home is estimated at $75,000. There was no fire or smoke damage to adjoining units.

No smoke alarms were sounding upon arrival; it does not appear there were any working smoke alarms in the home. Metro Fire reminds you that smoke alarms do saves lives. Test your smoke alarms and replace the batteries when you change your clocks.
