Arrest Made in Suspected Arson at Local Hospital

Sacramento County, CA – At 10:00pm last night, Metro Fire crews were dispatched to multiple trash can and dumpster fires at Mercy San Juan Medical Center located in. Prior to our units arriving, MSJ Security staff was able to control 2 fires in trash cans using a Dry-Chemical extinguisher. Metro Fire crews arrived and quickly controlled the remaining fire in a large dumpster near the parking structure for the main hospital.

Bystanders reported seeing an adult white male wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and carrying a black backpack. Sacramento County Sheriff Deputies quickly responded to the area and found a person matching the description of the suspected arsonist and detained him for questioning. Using hospital security footage, a positive identification was made with the person detained to at least one of the fires. James Richard Rhodes, 41 of Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of arson to property. The investigation is still on-going to determine if Rhodes was responsible for the other two fires on the property.
