Fire in Vacant Elverta Home Considered Suspicious

Sacramento County, CA – Just after 4:00 this morning, Metro Fire crews were dispatched to a home on the 2300 block of Missouri Way in the Elverta area. First arriving crews reported heavy fire coming through the roof and immediately initiated fire attack. Multiple hoselines were brought inside the house, while additional crews searched for potential victims.

During firefighting operations, a roof-top air conditioning unit became unstable and on the verge of falling in, potentially onto firefighters. At this point, all crews were ordered out of the structure and firefighting continued from outside. As soon as it was determined that rooms in the home not directly under the A/C unit were safe, interior firefighting resumed. One firefighter was injured fighting this fire and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. A total of twenty-five firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, saving a large portion of the home and protecting neighboring houses. The fire is considered suspicious; arson investigators are on scene determining the cause at this time. Damage is currently estimated at $50,000.

Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to call the Metro Fire Anonymous Tipline at 916-859-3775. For more information, check out www.metrofire.ca.gov, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
