Smoke Investigation Leads to Discovery of Deceased Dog in Burn Pile

Sacramento County, CA - Just before noon, Metro Fire crews were dispatched to a home on the 4700 block of Moorpark Way in North Highlands for report of smoke from a back yard. Crews arrived to find a burn pile in the back yard, with a deceased dog in the pile. Firefighters quickly called for assistance from Sacramento County Sheriff Officers and Sacramento County Animal Control.

Other dogs were located at the residence, but did not appear to have been harmed. One adult female in the residence was transported to a local hospital with an undisclosed medical problem. Members of the Arson/Bomb Investigation Unit from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Sacramento County Sheriff Department immediately launched an investigation into this incident and will release more information as it becomes available.
