Man Falsely Representing Himself as Firefighter, Entering Homes in Citrus Heights

Citrus Heights, CA- Late this afternoon, a man falsely representing himself as a firefighter approached multiple residences in the Sunrise Vista Mobile Home Park. The man stated he was a firefighter and was there to perform "smoke and carbon monoxide detector inspections." The man is described as in his 30's, approximately 6'0", with dark hair and driving a silver pick-up truck. Residents who let the man inside stated that he asked to use the restroom and once alone, searched through drawers and cabinets. It is unknown what he was looking for, or if personal property was stolen.

Metro Fire does not send firefighters inside residences for smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, or any other type of inspection. Any person stating they need to perform such an inspection is not a firefighter; do not let them inside your home. Firefighters arriving to a residence will be in a Metro Fire vehicle, with fellow crewmembers, and will have Metro Fire identification.

Metro Fire and Citrus Heights Police Department are investigating this incident together. Anyone with information is requested to contact CHPD at 916-727-5500 or the Metro Fire Tipline at 916-859-3775. If an individual matching the above description comes to your door and represents himself as a firefighter, call 9-1-1 or your local law enforcement; do not let him enter your home.
