Local Fourth Grader Wins Fire Prevention Week Contest

Sacramento County, CA – During Fire Prevention Week in October, Metro Fire reached out to all our elementary school students with a contest. We were looking for a slogan/drawing combination demonstrating what a child thinks is important for preventing fires. The slogan will be used for Fire Prevention Week 2015 on our website, Facebook, and in our community outreach. In addition, our winner gets a VIP tour of her local fire station and lunch (with up to three friends) with the firefighters.

The winning slogan has been selected and the student, her parents, and school were all notified last week. The student is a fourth grader from Sierra Oaks School. Her teacher, Mr. McCombs, was one of a handful of school teachers who encouraged his class to participate, even submitting entries for multiple students together.

This Wednesday, during a special assembly at Sierra Oaks, Metro Fire will be announcing the winner of the contest and sharing her drawing and slogan with her schoolmates. The assembly will take place at 2:00 PM; a special tour of the fire engine will be given to our winner's fourth grade class at 1:45. Of course, since this is about Fire Prevention, fire crews will be talking to the entire school about staying low, when to call 911, and stop, drop and roll.

Media is welcome at the event. For more information, contact Captain Michelle Eidam at (916) 616-2432. Sierra Oaks School is located at 171 Mills Road in the Arden area.
